Travel advisory: US warns of crime risk in Bahamas

(WJW) — Americans are being reminded to exercise increased caution after the U.S. Department of State its travel advisory for the Bahamas.
The advisory, July 28, keeps the Bahamas at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. While the advisory level did not change, the State Department its summary to emphasize ongoing safety concerns, including violent crime.

Officials said violent crime, including armed robberies, burglaries and sexual assaults, can occur anywhere in the Bahamas. Most reported crimes occur in Nassau and Freeport on New Providence and Grand Bahama islands, according to the warning.
Travelers are also cautioned about reports of sexual assaults involving jet ski operators.

Visitors staying at vacation rentals are also advised to be cautious, particularly at properties without private security.
The State Department has also issued a Worldwide Caution, advising Americans traveling abroad to exercise increased vigilance.
