With its array of food choices that fit most dietary preferences and budget-friendly store brands, it's a favorite stop for many. However, there is another reason to love Trader Joe's: their extraordinarily popular tote bags.

Just in time for the summer months, the grocery chain has announced some concrete details about the newest additions to its viral bag collection. The bags, set to be released on June 17, are 13 inches long, 11 inches tall, and 6 inches wide. "The size is ideal for smaller shopping trips, to pick up those few items you forgot the first time around," Trader Joe's public relations manager Nakia Rohde shared.

The $2.99 polyester/cotton blend bags have a pocket on each side, making them ideal for a phone, wallet, keys, or other small items. They come in four varieties: pink stripes, blue stripes, green stripes, and tan stripes.

There had been rumors about the pastel-striped canvas mini totes for months, with influencer Trader Joe's Obsessed even sharing photos of them. At the time, several employees chimed in, saying they'd heard nothing about the new bags. The release of the Summer Fun Mini Insulated Totes on May 20 led many to wonder whether the rumors were a decoy.

Reseller Chaos and Legal Action

Crew members have reported being frustrated and exhausted with the focus on the tote bags. It's not uncommon for stores to see customers form long lines on days when new tote bags are to be released, due to the limited quantity each store carries. Many bags are also available on resale sites, often at much higher prices. Trader Joe's has addressed these markups in the past, as well as fake Trader Joe's tote bags.

"We are aware that some knockoff totes are being sold online and have recently filed a lawsuit to protect our customers from being misled," Rohde said. "At Trader Joe's, it's very important to us that our customers are getting what they've paid for. That's one of the reasons we only offer Trader Joe's products for sale inside Trader Joe's stores. This enables us to put our customers first, ensuring they're getting authentic Trader Joe's products."
