The nationās first clinic intended to reverse gender transition care will open in Texas, and as part of a childrenās hospitalās settlement with the state, thereās a tight timeline on when it will open.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced in a statement that the nationās first detransition clinic will open at Texas Childrenās Hospital by the end of October. Itās part of an agreement to settle a state investigation with the Justice Department over allegations that the hospital fraudulently billed Texas Medicaid for gender-affirming treatments using false diagnosis codes.

āThis historic settlement is a resounding defeat for the radical gender ideology that has preyed on Texas children under the guise of ācare,ā ā said Paxton in the statement. āTexas Childrenās has agreed to pay millions back to Texas. The detransition clinic, which is the first of its kind, must open within months. Activist doctors who harmed children have been fired. This settlement sends an unmistakable message: if you put radical ideology over childrenās health, my office will go after you. We will continue to lead the way in stopping the far-leftās radical gender agenda.ā
Per the settlement, the clinic must offer āEndocrinology, Surgery, Primary Care, Fertility Counseling, Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Social Work/Case Management (to include navigation of insurance, legal name changes, patient navigator role to coordinate across departments), and Speech Pathology.ā

The clinic must also have āan easily accessible landing pageā on the hospitalās website, which, per the settlement, must also include the detransition clinic as an option for charitable giving.
The clinic, intended to serve patients up to age 21 who have received gender-affirming care ā called āsex-rejecting procedures in the settlementā ā must offer services āat no cost to patients for a period of five (5) years.ā

In a statement, Brad Pritchett, the CEO of the nonprofit LGBTQIA+ rights advocacy group Equality Texas, said, āPaxton is blackmailing a hospital system into creating a resource that no one is asking for. It ignores the actual science and years of data about the overwhelming benefits of gender-affirming care, and it completely disregards the huge number of trans people who owe their lives to the very care Paxton is opposing. It is embarrassing that a hospital once revered for its care has lost its integrity and put politics over patients.ā
