As the Hunger Games cinematic universe expands, fans are getting ready to see new actors as their favorite characters.
Ahead of the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the Lionsgate film’s official YouTube page released an “official lookback” at 2015’s Mockingjay Part 2. It offered a first look at Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Maya Hawke as Wiress and more.
As Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen intones that she’ll “remember” the past, we are shown glimpses of beloved characters from the original tetralogy — including Elizabeth Banks as Effie, Stanley Tucci as Caesar and Amanda Plummer as Wiress — and the younger depictions of their characters from the Suzanne Collins novels.

A formidable Ralph Fiennes can be seen as President Coriolanus Snow after a glimpse of Donald Sutherland in the role. Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Lili Taylor are shown as young Plutarch Heavensbee, Beetee Latier and Mags Flanagan, taking over the roles from Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright and Lynn Cohen, respectively.

Assuming the role of Haymitch Abernathy, previously Woody Harrelson, is Joseph Zada, this prequel’s main character. Sunrise on the Reaping explores the dystopian Panem “24 years before Katniss' saga, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy participates,” per an official synopsis.
Meanwhile, a smiling Fanning, 28, is glimpsed with a colorful scarf and updo complete with butterfly jewelry, continuing the cinematic tradition of Panem’s eye-popping fashion.
Not included in the new clip is Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, a character introduced in Collins’ March 2025 Sunrise on the Reaping novel. Fans got a look at the almost unrecognizable Oscar nominee in the role last November.

Francis Lawrence returns to helm the new movie after directing the four original Hunger Games and 2023 prequel The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Screenwriter Billy Ray returns from the original 2012 film that kicked off the dystopian franchise.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, also starring Mckenna Grace, Ben Wang and Whitney Peak, is in theaters Nov. 20.
