A "Today" show reunion is officially on the books.

Hoda Kotb is set to temporarily return to the NBC morning show and cohost with Savannah Guthrie starting on Monday, April 13, filling in for regular anchor Craig Melvin. Guthrie shared the programming note on April 9, announcing that Melvin is taking a "very well-deserved vacation" after "holding it down here for a long time."

"Monday, we're going to try a new host here: Her name is Hoda, and she's going to fill in for you next week," Guthrie joked, addressing Melvin. "So that will be fun."

This will be a reunion between Guthrie and Kotb, who coanchored the "Today" show together for seven years until Kotb left her role in January 2025. In February, Kotb returned to "Today" to fill in for Guthrie, who stepped away to deal with the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.

"I was walking through the airport yesterday, I was just flying back here. The number of people who came up and said, one thing they kept repeating, which just struck me is, 'She's like all of our moms. She's like all of our moms. Tell her we're praying. Tell her we're here,'" Kotb said on "Today" in February, reflecting on the public support for Guthrie amid the search for her mom. "And I think that's so important. It's touched everybody."

Savannah Guthrie was not the news when she returned to 'Today'

Guthrie returned to "Today" on Monday, April 6. Authorities in Arizona continue to search for her mother, who they believe was taken from her home again her will. After rejoining Melvin behind the desk, Guthrie said it was "good to be home," adding, "Well, here we go. Ready or not, let's do the news."

Later in the show on April 6, Guthrie stepped outside and greeted fans who had brought signs to share their support for her. "These signs are so beautiful," she said. "You guys have been so beautiful. I've received so many letters, so much kindness, to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers. So thank you so much."

Since then, "Today" has not made Guthrie's return into a major focus and has largely proceeded with its regular programing. Before making her return, Guthrie sat down for an interview with Kotb and explained why she wanted to come back on the air.

"It's hard to imagine doing it, because it's such a place of joy and lightness," she said. "I can't come back and try to be something that I'm not. But I can't not come back, because it's my family. I think it's part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. My joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful."
