Samantha Mumba is known by many for her singing career, but she also has over a decade of acting under her belt

Mumba tells PEOPLE about her latest work on season 5 of Harry Wild, costarring Jane Seymour

The actress raves about working with the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman alum and the joys of filming in Ireland, where she is from

Samantha Mumba may be known for music, but she also loves her acting career.

The entertainer, 43, recently caught up with PEOPLE, sharing her love for playing Paula Kenny in Acorn TV’s hit cozy mystery series Harry Wild. The show follows the titular character, played by Jane Seymour, who befriends a teen who tries to mug her (Rohan Nedd as Fergus Reid), to the chagrin of her detective son, Charlie (Kevin Ryan).

“It’s such a special, funny little show. I came into the show on season two and we’re on our fifth season now. It’s just been a really special thing to work on. And it has a really strong audience and fan core. So it’s been great,” she tells PEOPLE.

The biggest plus in working on the series, for Mumba, has been getting to know Seymour and see her at work.

“I adore Jane Seymour. I’ve learned so much from her. She is so incredible to work with, and really, really great,” she shares, adding, “I just cannot sing her praises enough. She’s awesome.”

Of the entire Harry Wild team, she added, “I’m so grateful for this show just because one thing that I love about acting is, maybe it’s because I’m a solo artist so everything is always just me, everything kind of lands on my shoulders, but I just love working with other like-minded people,” she shares. “I love working with a film crew and different actors. I learn a lot. It’s always so much more fun.”

Mumba also appreciates the opportunity to get back home to Ireland, where she was born, while filming the project. The singer lived there until she signed her record deal and began her whirlwind life in the spotlight.

“There’s the element of getting to be at home, and I get obviously to catch up with friends and family that I wouldn’t see very often when I get to do that. But certainly I live in America, I live in LA, and I’ve weirdly lived in America actually longer than I ever lived in Ireland, which is so strange to say. Even saying that out loud is weird,” she says.

Not only is Mumba enjoying her life in California with husband Torray Scales and their 11-year-old daughter, but this summer has seen the family of three move into a new home, filling the “Baby, Come On Over” singer with tons of creative inspiration.

“We did. I’m so excited. It’s so beautiful and I’m just very, very happy,” she shares. “It’s very, very peaceful, very quiet. And that’s exactly what my vibe is, where I’m at.”

She continues, “I love anything interior-driven and having a brand new house to just really set our own stamp and our energy on has been really, really just amazing. I just had family over from Ireland visiting, so it was nice being able to have them in our new house and enjoy it with them too.”
