Rosie O’Donnell returning to “The View” for season 30: ‘I will go’ with ‘all’ past cohosts

Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that she will return to The View for season 30 as a guest.

“I will go” alongside other past cohosts, the comedian and former moderator said, after prior single-season stints ended in 2007 and 2015.

O’Donnell famously clashed with Elisabeth Hasselbeck at the Hot Topics table, while she previously opened up about a “tense time” with Whoopi Goldberg on the show as well.

Rosie O’Donnell has announced that, after high-profile single-season stints on the show that ended in 2007 and 2015, the former moderator will return to The View for its landmark season 30.

As she prepares to temporarily fill in at the Jimmy Kimmel Live desk in the weeks ahead, the 64-year-old comedian and actress revealed that she will once again appear on The View despite exiting the daytime talk show twice before.

“I will go on the 30th anniversary next [season],” O’Donnell told The Tangle podcast, per a transcript provided to Entertainment Weekly, adding that she’ll participate “in whatever way they want me” after confirming that she was asked to return to The View in the past.

While O’Donnell noted that she’ll appear on season 30 “just as a guest,” she revealed that they’re bringing back all the hosts, I think, for the 30th season” to commemorate the show’s three-decade run.“And you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics,” O’Donnell continued, explaining that the dynamic “was not the case when I first joined” in 2006.“Many, many people got the short end of the stick there. It was, you know, it was a factory where people were being churned in and out and their tenuous security, nobody got to be calm,” she said. “It also was a show at the time that was run by a man. A show created by a woman, for women, about women, and the man was deciding what we should talk about. And that didn’t sit right with me, you know.”

EW has reached out to a View representative for comment.

O’Donnell has spoken about longtime View producer Bill Geddie, who died in 2023, in the past.

“One day on the show [Elisabeth Hasselbeck] kind of threw me under the bus and I was like, ‘Are you f---ing kidding me?’ I finished the show, got my coat, walked out, and said I’m not going back, and I didn’t, until a few years later when they asked me to come back and Whoopi [Goldberg] was on it and we clashed in ways that I was shocked by,” O’Donnell said during a 2023 appearance on the Now What? With Brooke Shields podcast.

Shields eventually asked O’Donnell if she regretted her two-time stint on The View, to which O’Donnell replied: “I know this, it’s not the best use of my talent to get in a show where I have to argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness. It was not something I’d ever do again.

She continued, praising late journalist Barbara Walters, who created the talk show in 1997. “Barbara and I got along after, we went out to dinner, we knew each other way before I did that show, before she asked me to do it, and we remained friendly toward the end. I forgave her, because she was older and did the best that she could with what she had to work with, but it’s nothing I’d want to do again, I can say that.”

After first leaving The View in 2007 following a volatile back-and-forth on the air with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, O’Donnell briefly returned in 2014, only to depart once again in 2015. O’Donnell also told the Tangle podcast that she had a “tense time” with current moderator Whoopi Goldberg across her 2014 return, but that the duo patched things up in recent years.

O’Donnell and Hasselbeck, however, have publicly sparred over social media in recent years, particularly after O’Donnell answered a question on the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel podcast in late 2025 about the pair’s 2007 on-air spat. Hasselbeck responded with a lengthy, tear-filled social media rant, saying in her videos that “God’s fire and glory” will protect O’Donnell from “whatever is holding you back,” to which O’Donnell eventually replied, “Nothing’s holding me back, Elisabeth. Knock, knock. Who’s there? Rosie O’Donnell! I don’t hold back, sweetheart.”

Other former View cohosts have also spoken out about the show, including Meghan McCain, whom has repeatedly slammed the show and its stars since she left the program in 2021.
