Roman Reigns’ next World Heavyweight Championship challenger is one step closer to being crowned, but the road to Mexico City won’t be an easy one.
WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide have officially unveiled the bracket for an eight-man tournament that will determine who earns a shot at The OTC on a historic episode of Raw.
The tournament stretches across both WWE and AAA programming, bringing together some of the biggest names in lucha libre.
With several dream matches already confirmed — and one potential family showdown looming — the stakes are rising faster than a top-rope dive.
WWE and AAA reveal bracket for Roman Reigns’ No. 1 contender tournament
The tournament winner will challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the Sept. 14 episode of Raw, which will air live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
The first-round matches are now official. Penta will face Laredo Kid on the Aug. 10 edition of Raw, while Psycho Clown takes on La Parka during AAA’s Aug. 15 event.

Two more opening-round matches will take place on the Aug. 17 episode of Raw, with Dragon Lee facing El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. and Rey Fenix meeting El Fiscal.
The bracket also creates the possibility of a blockbuster final between real-life brothers Penta and Rey Fenix. If both advance through their respective sides, it would mark their first singles meeting under the WWE banner. That’s the kind of family reunion that could come with more chops than hugs.
The tournament was announced after AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio revealed that Reigns had agreed to defend his championship in Mexico City. On Raw, Mysterio explained the decision, saying, “Roman recognized how important lucha libre is to me and how important this night is.” He added, “We’ve agreed that a challenger needs to earn this opportunity.”
WWE has not announced when the semifinal or final matches will take place. However, with elite luchadores from WWE and AAA competing for the biggest opportunity of their careers, the path to facing Roman Reigns is officially underway.
