Meghan Markle 'won't meet' royal family at Christmas for 'grim' reason

Meghan Markle has little interest in reconciling with the royal family, particularly Prince William and Kate Middleton, according to reports.

The Duchess of Sussex has spent over a month back in the UK alongside her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children.

When the pair revealed their surprising return to Britain following six years in California, speculation arose regarding their dynamic with the royals. It comes after the Duke of Sussex attended a black-tie gala in London this week.

Yet since their arrival, it's understood no meetings with royal family members have taken place.

Meanwhile, King Charles III released a statement last month defining the couple's status as "private citizens," which allegedly caused tension within the Sussex household.

Regarding the friction between Harry and his elder brother, reports suggest the latter is declining to arrange a meeting with his sibling for discussions. But it appears Meghan has similar reservations about any reunion.

With attention focused on the royal family's Christmas arrangements, a source revealed to Closer, "Meghan can't think of anything worse than hanging around hoping the royals might squeeze them in somewhere over Christmas."

The source explains that Meghan recognizes they're "not going to be sitting down at Sandringham like everything's suddenly fine," and she's unwilling to spend Christmas "making uncomfortable small talk with William and Kate and a bunch of other people who've made it pretty clear how they feel about them."

"That would mean having to endure days on end faking it with the Waleses, and that's a pretty grim prospect; there's no doubt it would ruin Christmas for Meghan," they added.

It is believed that relations between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales continue to be quite tense.

William has reportedly even threatened to boycott family events over the prospect of Meghan and Harry being there.

The former Suits actress and Kate have experienced a turbulent relationship from the beginning, as the two had a significant disagreement before Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018.

Yet, both couples were previously perceived as being tight-knit, with the younger royals earning the nickname the "fab four" during Harry and Meghan's time as working royals.

But given all that has transpired in recent years, including the Sussexes' Netflix documentary series, their interview with Oprah and Harry's memoir Spare, insiders have suggested that relationships remain frosty and damaged.
