Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are separating after a decade of partnership.

The duo met in 2016 and got engaged in 2020.

They announced their split via a joint Instagram post.

Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are officially separating after a decade of partnership that began at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The power couple, who have been engaged since October 2020, announced the split via a joint Instagram post.

"There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news," they wrote. "After a lot of thought, we've made the decision to separate as a couple."

The statement continued, "This hasn’t been an easy decision, but it’s one we’ve made together, with so much love, respect, and care for each other. We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us."

Finally, Rapinoe and Bird also thanked their "incredible community" for supporting them "exactly as we are," adding, "So many of you have reminded us, again and again, why loving out loud matters."

For the uninitiated, Rapinoe and Bird are retired professional athletes who played soccer and basketball, respectively. Both women have won multiple Olympic medals and are considered some of the best players to ever compete in their respective sports. They are also vocal advocates for a number of LGBTQ+ organizations and co-hosted the podcast "A Touch More" together up until today's announcement.

"While this chapter of doing the podcast together is ending, what we’ve built with you isn’t," they wrote. "Thank you for being with us through all of it…it means the world to us."

In 2020, InStyle asked the duo what it was like to be a "badass power couple." Rapinoe's response? "To us, it seems sort of normal, who we are," she explained. "I think we're both just pretty low-key in that sense. Neither of us are, like, clamoring for attention."
