Samantha Busch, the widow of late NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, publicly spoke out weeks after his death at age 41 on May 21

Samantha welcomed two children with Kyle: son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4

She said she and their kids are grateful for "the prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness" since Kyle's death

Samantha Busch broke her silence Friday, June 5, following the tragic death of her husband, NASCAR icon Kyle Busch, who died at age 41 on May 21.

In a message posted to Instagram, Samantha said she and the couple's two children, son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4, are grateful for "the prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives" following Kyle's untimely death from severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis.

"As a family, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you," she began. "The prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives. While our hearts are absolutely shattered, we have felt God's presence and arms wrapped tightly around us through each and every one of you."

Samantha continued, "The love that has surrounded our family during this unimaginable time has brought comfort in the middle of so much pain. Knowing the impact Kyle had on others and seeing how they are honoring him through each unique act of generosity is a true testament to how special Kyle is to so many people. There are moments when the weight of this loss feels impossible to carry, yet time and time again God, through you all, has shown us we are not alone. From family and friends to fans and complete strangers, thank you for showing up for us. Thank you for loving our family so well."

She concluded her post by thanking the community for "loving Kyle" and "for honoring him."

"We may never find the words to fully express what your support has meant to us, but please know that we are deeply grateful," she wrote.

Samantha's comments come not long after she and her children made an emotional appearance at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24 for the Coca-Cola 600, a race Kyle was expected to compete in before his death. Kyle's parents, Tom and Gaye Busch, as well as his older brother, NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch, were also in attendance.

"This was Kyle Busch's home. Every racetrack was Kyle Busch's home," NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell said during the May 24 event, where he paid tribute to Kyle in a speech.

"He competed like he had something to prove every single race, when in reality he had already proven everything. What I think we'll miss the most isn't the wins," O'Donnell continued. "It's the guy who quietly wanted to help a teammate, give some advice, who was the husband, the father, the guy who quietly did things for others when no one was watching."

O'Donnell then turned his attention to Samantha, Kyle's wife of 15 years.

"Samantha, I want you to know that this sport stands with you, and that you and your children are NASCAR family forever," O'Donnell said. "Brexton and Lennix, your dad loves you with all his heart. Everyone gathered here, everyone behind you, everyone watching on TV, and all those people up in that grandstand, they are your family, and we've got you."

A two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle tallied a whopping 234 wins across NASCAR's top three national touring series (Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series) during his storied career.

His family announced his hospitalization with a "severe illness" on May 21 before confirming his death hours later.

"On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch," a statement on behalf of NASCAR, the Busch family and Richard Childress Racing read.

"Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch," the statement continued. "A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans. Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR's highest level and fostered the next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series."

The statement added, "His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal 'Rowdy Nation.' Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha's parents, Kurt and all of Kyle's family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends and fans. NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon."

In the wake of Kyle's passing, his family has received an outpouring of support from fans and the NASCAR community, including driver Daniel Suárez, who dedicated his Coca-Cola 600 win to his late peer.

Kyle's car number has also been retired, with Richard Childress Racing confirming on May 22 it would bar the use of the No. 8 car and reserve it for the future for Brexton.
