Some things the best-selling author enjoys currently are text chains with her mom friend group and her horses

"Self-love looks different at this phase of my life than maybe other phases," Katherine says

Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt enjoys the simple things in life.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the bestselling author, 39, reveals the little things that bring her joy and how she practices self-love.

"Self-love looks different at this phase of my life than maybe other phases," Katherine explains. "And I think it's really about giving yourself grace."

"Right now, it's spending time with my girlfriends, or trying to bring humor to my mom group chat that we all have with each other," she continues, adding that the text chain "brings happiness and lightheartedness to a wild time or the sometimes chaotic moments of parenthood."

Katherine is a mom to three children with husband Chris Pratt — daughters Lyla Maria and Eloise Christina, plus son Ford Fitzgerald — and also a stepmom to her actor husband's 13-year-old son Jack, whom Chris shares with ex-wife Anna Faris.

Katherine — who has partnered with Hallmark for the greeting card company's Valentine's Day collection — says staying active is another thing that is important to her.

"I really try to move my body every day in a way that gets my blood pumping, that makes me feel sane and gives me some time to myself," she tells PEOPLE.

Who Katherine surrounds herself with in her day-to-day life is also just as crucial, and that, she says, includes people "who make me laugh."

"Being out in nature, being at the barn around my horse or around animals in general, and just doing all of those things with my kids is also a huge part of it," continues the Kat and Brandy author.

Katherine adds, "It looks different all the time, but any way that I can implement those factors into my day is a way that I show myself some self-love."
