Former first lady Jill Biden revealed that she had a frosty encounter with incoming first lady Melania Trump the morning of President Donald Trump's second inauguration, Wonderwall.com can report.

Despite a public show of civility, Jill describes their interaction that day as noticeably strained.

Jill's memories of Inauguration Day

Former President Joe Biden's wife is sharing her recollections in a new memoir, View from the East Wing — an inside look at her four years as first lady.

In the book, Jill recalls the moments before Joe handed the keys to the White House over to Donald on January 20, 2025, after a roller-coaster campaign that saw her husband forced out of the race.

The incoming and outgoing first families met on the White House steps and posed for photos before gathering inside for tea. They later split into separate limousines for the motorcade to the inauguration ceremony.

While Joe and Donald were in one limo, Jill and Melania were in another — and their ride was chilly at best.

"The presidents' car was likely frosty, too, but at least they'd spent considerable time in each other's company," Jill writes. "This would be one of few interactions Melania and I had ever had."

Small-talk attempt

Jill writes that she attempted to break the ice with small talk during the ride. At one point, another passenger in the car asked Melania where her son, Barron Trump, was attending school.

Melania offered the brief reply, "NYU," adding that he had "a floor in Trump Tower."

According to Biden, she also asked Melania about her father, as the former model's mother had recently died. Melania replied that her father was doing well and was with the family before adding, "But you know, it's only been a year."

The conversation turned to pets. When another passenger asked whether the Trumps had a dog, Melania explained why they never got one. "I asked Barron several times, but he said no, he didn't want a dog," she said, according to Jill's account, as reported by Newsweek.

Still, Jill writes that much of the conversation centered on the weather.

"Melania kept trying to switch the topic to the weather," Jill writes, adding that she tried to "get with Melania's weather-only program" by expressing sympathy for the military dogs participating in the inauguration festivities.

According to Jill, that was about as far as the conversation went.

Melania's anger over Mar-a-Lago raid

"I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here in America," first lady Melania Trump said in a social media video addressing the FBI's 2022 raid on her Florida home, Mar-a-Lago. By: MEGA

In her memoir, Jill suggests the relationship may have been strained in part because Melania blamed Joe for the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., in 2022 as part of an investigation into classified documents Donald had taken with him after leaving office.

Though the search took place during Joe's presidency, the Department of Justice maintained that the decision to seek a warrant was made independently of the president.

"I have compassion for her, having been subject to the same kind of search," Jill writes. "I knew how distressing it was to have agents rummage through your underwear drawer."

The FBI also searched the Bidens' home in Wilmington, Del., in 2023, looking for classified documents.

Melania has previously voiced her fury over the Mar-a-Lago raid, telling Fox & Friends, "Yeah, it made me angry," before calling it "an invasion of privacy."

A previous snub

Jill Biden and Melania Trump don't have the cordial relationship many first ladies share. By: MEGA

Jill was reportedly upset that Melania did not invite her to the traditional White House tea and tour before Joe's 2021 inauguration, a break from long-standing custom.

"Jill was livid and never forgot the slight — especially as she'd been waiting and waiting for the call to come," a source claimed. "She pointed to it as another example of Melania's bad manners."

Sources also alleged that Jill "seethed" that neither Donald nor Melania attended Joe's swearing-in, making Donald the first outgoing president in 150 years not to attend his successor's inauguration.

"She said it was downright disrespectful of them and violated another long-standing tradition. It was hard not to take the freeze-out personally," said the source.
