'Enjoy That Fox News Gig,' 'Show (Sophie) Cunningham's Numbers' -- WNBA Fans Rub It In After A'ja Wilson Makes Fever Vet's Trolling Age Poorly

A’ja Wilson had the perfect response to Sophie Cunningham’s trolling. After Cunningham seemingly mocked Wilson’s heated fan incident following Game 2, the three-time WNBA champion exploded for 36 points in the deciding Game 3 as the Las Vegas Aces eliminated the Indiana Fever 94-83.

The emphatic response paved the way for WNBA fans to pile on the Fever veteran.

The drama started during Game 2 in Indianapolis. With just over four minutes left, Cunningham was involved in a collision with Wilson, after which a courtside fan pointed toward the Aces star. Wilson walked toward the fan and exchanged words with him before teammates, coaches, and security intervened.

Wilson received a technical foul, while the fan was briefly escorted from his seat before being allowed back after the Fever determined he had not violated the arena’s fan code.

The Fever won 99-89 to force a deciding Game 3. But Cunningham appeared to keep the incident alive the next day.

In a TikTok video, she sat with her coffee and said:

“Not trying to be dramatic at all, like seriously. I was just here having my morning coffee and what a [expletive] comeback year for the point. Who would have ever thought, just who would have ever thought?”

“The point” was a reference to Cunningham’s own viral pointing incident involving DeWanna Bonner earlier in the season. Her post was widely viewed as a playful jab at the Wilson situation. That did not exactly go over well with everyone heading into the winner-takes-all Game 3.

Wilson answered on the court. The four-time MVP delivered 36 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 11-for-18 shooting as Las Vegas defeated Indiana 94-83 to advance to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Cunningham recorded 5 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists. The disparity immediately triggered jokes from WNBA fans.

One fan went straight for the media angle, writing, “Enjoy that Fox News gig.”

Another focused on the result: “All that A’ja slander for her to send those girls to Cancun.”

One X user even blamed Cunningham for part of Indiana’s issues, writing, “At the root of the Fever problems is WNBA Kyle Kuzma aka Sophie Cunningham.”

Another simply wrote, “BUM [expletive] HAD 5 POINTS.”

One fan wanted the comparison to include both players’ numbers:

“That ain’t fair. You gotta at least show Cunningham’s numbers, too: 5 Points, 1 Rebound, 2 Assists. Advantage: A’ja.”

Cunningham finished the three-game series averaging just 7.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.7 assists. She scored 13 points in Game 1, 4 points in Game 2, and 5 points in the elimination game. That made Wilson’s dominant Game 3 performance stand out even more.

The Aces will now wait for the winner of Friday’s Dallas Wings-Golden State Valkyries Game 3 to determine their semifinal opponent.
