Charlie Day has an inspired casting choice for a future Super Mario movie.

When Day, 50, was asked for a “dream casting pick" following the release of hit animated sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, he floated the possibility of his It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia costar Danny DeVito joining the franchise.

"Danny [DeVito] would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think,” Day, who voices Luigi in the Nintendo-to-big-screen adaptations, told ScreenRant in an April 2 interview.

The Hiroji Kiyotake-designed Wario was introduced in 1992 Game Boy video game Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. He has appeared as one of Mario's main antagonists throughout the Nintendo franchise, but has yet to factor into what could be a Super Mario cinematic universe.

DeVito, 81, has lent his vocal talents to his share of curmudgeonly characters. The Oscar nominee voiced Philoctetes in 1997’s Hercules, the titular character in 2012’s The Lorax and Satan in FXX’s 2022 series Little Demon.

Asked for their dream casting choices in any future Super Mario movies, Keegan-Michael Key told ScreenRant that Chloë Grace Moretz has “a good voice,” while Anya Taylor-Joy named Jessica Lange. Key, 55, voices Toad, while Taylor-Joy, 29, voices Princess Peach in the films.

Day and DeVito’s long-running hit It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which airs on FXX and streams on Hulu, celebrated its 17th season last summer.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, featuring the voice of Chris Pratt as Mario, is in theaters now.
