Afterward, Cardi responded on social media and took responsibility for their falling out, saying she's reached out to Latto multiple times

In a leaked phone call in September, Cardi called Latto a pussy

Cardi B wants to clear the air with Latto.

After Latto confirmed her new song "Gimme Dat" references Cardi in an interview on The Breakfast Club on Thursday, June 4, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper responded in a lengthy post on X.

"I truly understand how you feel…and that's exactly why I chose to apologize publicly because the disrespect became public. On that call I didn't even mean to call you that, I didn't mean any harm.. There's a difference in what I said vs what I meant," Cardi, 33, said, referencing a leaked call last September, where Cardi called Latto, 27, a "pussy."

She continued, "What I could have said was you was too forgiving and gave too much mercy in that situation. But it was a heated conversation and I let my mouth get the best of me."

Cardi, real name Belcalis Almánzar, then explained that she was "extremely overwhelmed and emotional" when the phone call was released — but she knows it's not an "excuse."

The "Up" rapper also said she felt "bad about what happened" and insisted she made multiple attempts to contact Latto, real name Alyssa Stephens, after the leaked call.

"I spoke with your manager, your sister, and even texted you directly to take full responsibility," she concluded. "I always had love and respect for you ! I always wanted to make it right but making it right looks different for the both of us… I wanted to connect with you but you wanted to address it on your album."

In September, Cardi dissed Latto in a leaked, heated phone call with Ice Spice's manager, James Rosemond Jr., where she expressed her anger toward the "Princess Diana" rapper, real name Isis Gaston.

"I'm not Latto. I'ma beat her the f--- up," Cardi said about Ice Spice on the call. "You think I'm pussy ass Latto?"

After the phone call was released, Cardi immediately apologized as she had just collaborated with Latto on "ErrTime (Remix)" for her latest studio album Am I the Drama? (Ultimate Edition).

"I was ranting and hot at the moment but I f--- with Latto HEAVY," she wrote. "I respect everything about her including her team thats so sweet.. AND NOPE! I'm not too prideful to apologize to somebody I really respect so this my public apology and now ima privately buy her a bag."

Then, on May 29, Latto released her latest studio album Big Mama and she referenced Cardi's attempt to fix their friendship in "Gimme Dat."

"Talkin' 'bout buying Big Mama a bag like my n---- ain't already bought it," Latto raps.

Latto confirmed the lyric was about Cardi on The Breakfast Club and she opened up about the state of their friendship.

"It's someone I deadass looked at as a friend. Like, I understand this industry shirt first, too. But we was on a texting basis. So I feel like, 'Yeah, you tweeted to the world, but we got each other number.' So then probably like two months later, something like that, she did text me, but by that time I'm like, 'I'm not even thinking about that,'" Latto said, adding that they haven't spoken since.

"I'm open to the conversation. When? I don't know cause I got a baby now, life done kept moving," she continued. "The people just now hearing that song but like I made that song when that was a topic in my life. It wasn't no diss, that's just what was happening in my life. Like, you talking about buying Big Mama a bag? I don't need no damn bag."

Each of the rappers were pregnant at the time of the leak; Cardi welcomed a son with Stefon Diggs in November 2025, while Latto welcomed a daughter with 21 Savage this spring.
