Cameron Diaz and Keanu Reeves are acting in a movie together for the first time in 30 years with their new comedy Outcome.
Diaz, 53, and Reeves, 61, portray lifelong friends in the new movie from director Jonah Hill, which comes 30 years after the release of their 1996 crime comedy Feeling Minnesota, which was previously the only film the pair had made together.
"Well, I was really surprised that Keanu didn't remember our special handshake that we had," Diaz tells PEOPLE with a laugh when asked about reuniting with Reeves during an interview with Reeves and their costar Matt Bomer. "We just would have a whole thing where we were like—high five, down low and then like a couple kicks on the feet, you know?"
"I just was so surprised you didn't remember that 30 years later, Keanu," she adds, looking to her costar. "But we refreshed, we've got a whole other thing. We're, we're, we're right back into it. Yeah, we're right back into it. So we're good, we're good."
Reeves, for his part, tells PEOPLE that "it's all awesome" to reunite with his former costar.

In Feeling Minnesota, Reeves portrays Jjaks, who runs away with Diaz's Freddie after they meet at Freddie's wedding to Jjaks' brother Sam (Vincent D'Onofrio); chaos ensues after Freddie and Jjaks instantly fall in love. Outcome, the first movie from writer-director Hill, 42, in four years, sees Reeves portray a lifelong Hollywood star who teams up with his lifelong friends (Diaz and Bomer, 48) after he learns of an extortion attempt against him.

Reeves tells PEOPLE that he felt "honored" to learn that Hill wanted to meet with him to discuss his new movie. "I got this [invite] that 'Jonah would like to meet with you,' and I was like 'Wherever he wants.' He's like, 'You want to come over to my house?' " he recalled. "I'm like, 'Sure, let's go.' So I went over there, rode the bike, went out to the ocean, hung out outside, and he shared what he had going on, and I was like, 'Wow.' "

For Diaz, the movie is just her second film release since she returned to acting for the first time in a decade with last year's Netflix action comedy Back in Action.
"I love Jonah. Just comedically, he's one of the greatest of our generation," she says of Hill. "He's so funny. I loved his perspective. I was just on board with — let's go, let's go try this out. Let's go play, you know? And then Matt came on and it just felt like a great recipe. All the components felt really like they were going to be delicious."
Outcome begins streaming on Apple TV April 10.
