Actor Wilmer Valderrama teased there are "some major changes" ahead for NCIS
NCIS just finished its 23rd season, but the long-running series is still surprising its fans.
"Look, every couple of years, you guys know NCIS has to make sure you're watching. So we shake up the TV a little bit and we listen," NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama told PEOPLE in June 2026. "And we listen to where you as fans want to see us do. So we always really pay attention to what our fans want to really experience on the show."
The actor was referring to the season 23 finale, which closed with a dramatic cliffhanger — leaving the fate of Valderrama's character, Special Agent Nick Torres, up in the air.
Torres' future is unknown, but that's not the case for the series itself. CBS already announced the renewal back in January 2026.
Here's everything to know about NCIS season 24.

The season 23 finale, "Sons and Daughters," which aired on May 12, left things on a cliffhanger.
The episode ended with Torres (Valderrama) confronting Mateo (Patrick Keleher), the son of Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), in an alleyway. In the final moments, they both reached for their guns, as Torres told Mateo, "Don't do it..."
A single gunshot was heard, but the credits rolled before it was revealed who was hit.
"To be honest, I don't think we figured that one out yet," Valderrama told PEOPLE in June 2026, when explaining what's next for his character. "I don't think we have an idea yet. I asked, 'What do we want from it,' but I will tell you that someone does get hit and people might not like it."

"So if you ask me to speculate, I think there's a major, major shakeup happening and that episode one is going to bring both ... I don't want to get in trouble for this one. Let me get in trouble," Valderrama said when speaking to PEOPLE in June 2026.
"How about this? Next season, there's some major changes and there are some major additions," he continued. "What does that mean for Torres? I can only hope that he makes it out alive."
In addition to Valderrama and Murray, other members of the season 23 cast included Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover and Rocky Carroll.
