A Texas teen suffered chemical burns allegedly due to the shower water in Trinidad

The family's attorney shared test results suggesting dangerous chlorine levels

The chemical burns occurred amid ongoing complaints among residents over the quality of the water in the city

A teenage girl needed to be hospitalized after showering in Texas, her parents have said.

On Wednesday, June 3, Misty Logan alleged in a Facebook post that her 16-year-old daughter suffered head-to-toe chemical burns from showering in Trinidad last month. The city's leaders are aware of ongoing issues with the community's water, according to local news outlet KDFW FOX 4.

"On May 28, 2026, my child was chemically burned from head to toe from Trinidad's water! We have doctors saying it is from the water!" Misty wrote on Facebook. "My daughter suffered for days, her whole body was burning for days!"

"As a mom. I felt so helpless not being able to make her better! I'm so angry at the city of Trinidad. They had put chemicals in our water. I was never notified of that being done," she continued.

"My daughter did not deserve this. This city needs to get their s--- together and now," Misty wrote. "We don't need anyone else getting sick, let alone burned from chemicals that are being put in our water!"

The mom explained that she was posting a few days after her daughter was burned because she was focused on the teenager "feeling and doing better."

In an interview with FOX 4, the 16-year-old's parents, David and Misty, claimed that their family has had issues with the water throughout their 20 years of living in Trinidad.

Misty said seeing her daughter in tears while covered in a burning rash "broke my heart."

"This is not a laughing matter," David told FOX 4. "I do strongly believe that this, with my daughter, had something to do with the water."

"We've always had a problem with this water since we've lived here," said Misty. "It's always been discolored, smells."

The parents told the local news outlet that they were initially unsure what was irritating their daughter's skin. However, when the teen took more showers to relieve her initial pain, her skin became more irritated.

"Only thing we came to a conclusion on is each time you got in that water to try to relieve yourself it only made it worse," Misty told FOX 4.

The news outlet obtained medical records from Children's Health in Dallas stating David and Misty's daughter's skin irritation was "most likely chemical burn/severe dermatitis from water she was exposed to."

"The doctors came to the conclusion that what she had been exposed to was something from our water," said Misty.

According to FOX 4, the City of Trinidad announced on Facebook that they were temporarily converting from chloramine to free chlorine in their water from April 27 to May 30. The seemingly now-deleted post informed residents that they might notice a difference in the taste and odor of their water.

David and Misty's attorney posted a preliminary test strip result on X that appeared to suggest dangerous free chlorine levels in the family's water.

"Everyone in the city needs to be able to turn their faucet on and be able to drink the water with no hesitation," Misty told FOX 4.

The parents' complaint comes after Henderson County resident, Jennifer Combs, was charged with felony false alarm by the Trinidad Police Department for making a Facebook post in April that alleged people had been hospitalized after drinking the city's water.

Trinidad Police Chief Charles Gregory told FOX 4 that Combs' post "creates fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within a community."

Combs has since filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Trinidad and Gregory, alleging she was arrested in "an act of deliberate political retaliation."

On Thursday, June 4, Trinidad City Council's water workshop for residents was abruptly canceled "at the advice of counsel," ABC affiliate KLTV reported, citing Mayor Dennis Haws.

"My daughter was chemically burned, with no answers, and tonight was supposed to be a night about the water topic," David Logan told the local news outlet.

"After watching what my daughter went through head to toe, my momma bear is out, I'm done," Misty added.
